Known Issue

EASY5 2010.1.3 or later will not launch. It gives one of two error messages. Either:

Windows Error 14001: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.

Windows Error: (Error 14001): This application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

The issue is that EASY5 versions 2010.1.3 and later are built with a newer version of the VC++ 2005 redistributable. Normally, this would work; however, Microsoft found they had a security hole and "fixed" it and put out a patch for VC++, which is what is used to build EASY5 2010.1.3 and later. The patch can cause programs that rely on the previous version of the redistributable to exhibit the problem above.

Additional info: the suspect VC++ 2005 Redistributable is labeled version 8.0.59192 or 8.0.59193.
The download below should uninstall all old VC++ 2005 redistributables and install version 8.0.61001.

Please download and install this Microsoft Windows Security update:

You'll need to download the version called  "vcredist_x86.EXE" which is the 32-bit version. Even if you are running the 64-bit version of Windows, you'll still need this (the 32-bit version) since the EASY5 GUI is built on 32-bit code.

NOTE: You may need to uninstall the previous version of the  VC++ 2005 Redistributable first.

NOTE: If you are running on Windows 7, be sure to save the update to disk, then right click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator"-- otherwise the installation may not be complete.

NOTE: You should not need to reinstall EASY5.
