MSC Software is pleased to announce the upcoming release of the All New Marc.  The new 2011 release of Marc comes with an all new interface that make the product easier to use, smarter solver capabilities that improves the accuracy and robustness of the solution and enhancements that provide users with faster solutions and improved performance.

Some of the key enhancements in Marc 2011 include:
New, Updated User Interface
  • New Windows-like interface
  • Dock/undock windows
  •  Customize location of windows
  •  Improved CAD import capability
    •  Neutral formats – ACIS R20, IGES 5.3, STEP AP203 & AP214, Parasolid V22, VDAFS 2.0, STL
    • Native interfaces – CATIA V5/R20, CATIA V4/4.1.x 4.2.x, Pro/E Wildfire 4, SolidWorks 2009, Unigraphics NX7, Inventor 2010, DXF
  • Support for multiple windows during post-processing
  •  New FLOOD select feature to select edges or faces along smooth surfaces
  • New ‘Skin’ feature to create a finer ‘skin’ elements over existing mesh without changing volume, which is useful in improving stress results at the surface
  •  New tools to visualize the orientation of solid shell elements and reorient the desired ones
  •  Segment-to-segment (STS) contact approach to support large deformation and bilinear friction model in 2D and 3D simulations
  • New directional friction model to simulate orthotropic friction behavior due to either material surface behavior or geometric features
  • True glue contact in multiphysics
  • New  Strain Invariant Failure Technique (SIFT) for composite material failure analysis
  • POST codes to identify critical section force or moment in layered solid-shell elements
  • New POST codes to identify maximum and minimum quantities through thickness in a composite material
  • Easily identify the layer ID of critical ply in a composite material
Materials and Failure
  • New material model to represent behavior of solder (Anand viscoplastic material model)
  • Energy release rate calculations via Lorenzi method in addition to current VCCT method
  • Crack propagation based upon a cut through element in addition to previous methods of remeshing, constraint release and split along elements.
  • Support for crack bifurcation to study crack growth through reinforcement members such as struts and spars
Elements and Outputs
  • Several new electromagnetic elements
  • Pre State enhanced to support shell and solid-shell elements
  • Additional information of maximum values of key variables in Status file to help users quickly track the solution behavior
Solver Performance
  • Out-of-core implementation of Pardiso solver that performs nearly as well as in-core solver
  •  Improved CASI iterative solver for parallel processing
