MSC Software is proud to announce the availability of Digimat 2021.3. This is the third release of 2021 and if you missed the 2021.2 please see SimCompanion for release highlights. Digimat is a solution that spans integrated computational material engineering from material engineering through virtual manufacturing.

Release Highlights

New interoperability features enable ever more connected workflows

  • Import complex weaves from DFMA into Digimat-FE

Users working with woven reinforcements in Digimat FE will now have the option to import weaves from DFMA, the leading tool for creating woven composite unit cell, from Kansas State University. Allowing you to generate unit cells with unrivaled detail and accuracy and then easily import them into Digimat. 

  • Import CT Scans from Volume Graphics into Digimat-FE

Digimat-FE now contains an improved interface for importing CT scan data from Volume Graphics. You can now more easily take into account as-manufactured properties of your parts through a streamlined workflow to import the scans, perform phase segmentation, and section the model to only analyze a sub-model of your component.

  • Import AFP toolpath data from Vericut

Engineers designing and analyzing parts created with automated fiber placement can now read in toolpath data from Vericut in order to better understand the part performance by using directly as-manufactured composites microstructure.

  • Perform Fatigue Analysis with CAEfatigue

The Digimat Team is pleased to announce the ability to send analysis data to CAEfatigue, part of the MSCOne offering from MSC Software, to enable analyzing complex composite parts with the leading fatigue analysis solution on the market. Users will be able to analyze parts for time-dependent fatigue using both critical plane and maximum principal stress methodologies.

  • Transfer Forming Limit Diagram to FTI

To pair with the ability to generate FLDs in Digimat MF, users will be able to easily transfer these to FTI, part of the MSCOne offering from MSC Software. This capability will allow users to have more detailed analysis of sheet metal forming operations in FTI.

Generate Forming Limit Diagrams (FLD) in Digimat-MF

New features such as crystal plasticity, Taylor homogenization, and a metal microstructure have been added to Digimat-MF to allow for the generation of forming limit diagrams (FLD). These diagrams can be used in conjunction with solutions such as FTI to produce more accurate simulations of the sheet metal forming process.

Understand Eco-friendliness of materials with new indicators in Digimat-MX

Sustainable is at the core of the vision of the future for not just the Digimat team but also Hexagon, and as such we are proud to introduce new indicators to our material database, Digimat MX, to enable users to make more informed decision related to using recycled and bio-based materials in their products. With the new indicators you can easily toggle between different levels of recycled material content and quickly hone in on bio-based materials.

Understand the effects of low-energy impact in Digimat-VA

Composite parts experience all sorts of loading and physics, one of the often requested tests has been the ability to understand the effects of a drop test on test specimen. With this release, users will be able to perform a low energy impact analysis in Digimat-VA based on the ASTM 7136 standard.

Improved accuracy in Digimat-AM thanks to Layer Adhesion

Users of Digimat AM will find a slew of new enhancements to the solution to enable ever more detailed and accurate simulations of polymer-based additive manufacturing. One of the highlights is the ability to account for layer adhesion for fused-deposition modeling and fused-filament fabrication
