MSC Software is proud to announce the availability of Patran 2021.2. Patran has moved to a quarterly release cadence so customers can benefit from more frequent updates throughout the year. This is the second release this year, and if you missed the March release of Patran 2021.1 please see SimCompanion for release highlights.

Patran 2021.2 Release Highlights

Some main highlights of this Patran 2021.2 release include the following:

  • Imperfect Geometry: Postprocessing

New postprocessing support via HDF5 for Imperfect Geometry analysis (Implicit Nonlinear Preference), allowing users to plot results (stresses, displacements, etc.) of the imperfect Phase II run on either the undeformed or the deformed "imperfect" geometry.

  • Linear Contact (LINCNT)

The general contact analysis in SOL101 and quasi-static analysis in SOL400 uses a stiffness matrix for undeformed geometry, but the contact constraints and contact forces are applied on the deformed geometry – this inconsistent approach may cause convergence issues in certain contact simulations, and the new linear contact simulation addresses this problem by applying the contact constraints and contact forces on the undeformed geometry.

  • Results Output Format Enhancement

Certain obsolete options have been removed from the Results Output Format form for Nastran Structural, Thermal, and Explicit Nonlinear preferences. Also, a couple of new OUTPUT2 Formats have been added for the Nastran versions 2020 and higher.

  • CATIA v6 .3DXML CAD Import

Users can now import .3dxml files in “Author mode” and “Review mode” into Patran.
