SimCompanion is a Knowledge Management and Sharing portal that focuses on end users of MSC software products.

How do I sign-on to SimCompanion?
You can sign-on to SimCompanion by logging into the MSC website, accessible through one of the following methods:

  1. Using the corporate website header visible in the upper right corner on all pages within the site.
  2. By clicking on the appropriate link from SimCompanion "Please Sign In" portlet.

When SimCompanion returns search results, what are the items listed on the left side of the window?
The items listed on the right-hand side are called “Facets”, as shown below:


A facet is an item in a taxonomy used to classify like documents. They allow you to navigate content in a hierarchical fashion, thus allowing users to filter search results to find what you’re looking for. This is also refered to as Guided Search.

When performance a search, you may be presented with one or more of the following items, or facets, when results are returned:

Can I subscribe to receive an email when new content is created, or when existing content is updated?
Yes. Subscriptions are set by first navigating to the channel of interest...

If you wish to subscribe to ALL content within a that channel, simply click on the Subscribe button. For instance, to subscribe to all Product Updates, simply click on Product Updates and then click Subscribe as shown below:

If you wish to subscribe to a specific category within a channel, such as Product Family -- or even Product Module or Version with the Product Family -- drill into the specific category and click the Subscribe button. For instance, to subscribe to all Marc Product Updates, click on Product Updates, then the Product category, followed by Marc, and then click Subscribe as shown below

Where can I view and edit my subscriptions?
To view and edit your subscriptions, click on My Subscriptions within the Welcome portlet in the upper right corner of SimCompanion.

Can I tell SimCompanion to bundle all of my subscription content into one "digest email" over a specific time period?
Yes. Simply click on My Settings within the Welcome portlet in the upper right corner of SimCompanion and set your subscription preference based on one of the following options:

  • Don't send emails
  • Immediately (default)
  • Once per day
  • Every other day
  • Once per week

Can I provide feedback on an article? If so, why would I bother?
Yes, it is possible to provide feedback on an article. Simply scroll to the Rate this Page section at the bottom of every article and rate the quality of the article from 5 (high) to 1 (low) and/or provide feedback on how we can improve the article.

MSC will leverage all user feedback to better the knowledge sharing experience of our global community.

Can I search the VPD discussion forums from within SimCompanion?
While it is part of the SimCompanion roadmap, search within SimCompanion does not include the VPD discussion forums. It is, however, possible to search the forums within the VPD Community itself.

To search the forums, go to the discussion community that you wish to search and then click on the Search button (right next to Main Index). An example of this is the Nastran discussion community search.
